The Highest Power Defending Korea

I served in the Republic of Korea Air Force Military Police for 21 months at Suwon Air Base after a year in college.

Fighter jets are the Air Force's main force, and military polices protect the air base 24 hours from foreign threats to secure military assets safely. I was assigned to a quick response unit of the Military Police Squadron to execute an initial response to any terrorism in the air base. As I got more experience, I was promoted to squad leader to lead six members, conducting law enforcement operations. During squad leader, I improved inefficient contents in the standard operating procedure (SOP) by asking a boss, made a guideline to help on-duty personnel diffuse unique terrorism situations, and participated as on-site security for the 2023 military street parade and collaborated with the Republic of Korea Army and Navy Military Police, the South Korean Presidential Security Service, and the Korean National Police Agency to ensure public safety and security.

The title of this post, "The Highest Power Defending Korea," is the official slogan of the Republic of Korea Air Force. Before joining the military, I was afraid of whether I could successfully adjust to the military. Nevertheless, I did way better than I worried about and learned outstanding leadership through unique experiences that no one in my peers would have. Twenty-one months of bittersweet moments have gone. I can still imagine an odd feeling the place I wanted to leave so badly became the place I did not want to leave on the day of discharge. I joined the military at the lowest rank, Airman Basic (E-1), and left the organization at the highest rank as an enlisted soldier, Staff Sergeant (E-5). I have returned to society in the same position as an Airman Basic. Three years ago, I was graduated from high school. What will I do and achieve for the next three years?
